Join my growing private studio in the Greater Richmond region!

I am offering private lessons to students from beginner to advanced, from K-12 to adult. I maintain an active and thriving flute studio, and am currently the applied flute instructor at Brightpoint Community College, and also teach music at Virginia State University.

I have over 15 years of flute teaching experience, teaching students as young as 6 years old to adult amateurs. My students are award and competition winners and have performed in prominent venues such as Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall.

I offer in person lessons as well as online Zoom lessons. Please use the form below to schedule your free trial lesson! You can also contact me at my personal email address hblagoeva@yahoo.com

Students are prepared for school, solo/ensemble, district, and state auditions as well as auditions for summer programs, competitions, and college auditions.

My Teaching Philosophy

I devote my full attention to your continual development and improvement on the flute. I meet each student where they are at, and develop a personal plan for their success and progress. I work equally well with beginner students who have never played the flute, and advanced flute students preparing for competitions, and everyone in between.

Students in my studio are focusing on three main areas: tone, technique, and repertoire. Tone is how we generate a beautiful sound on the flute, and involves our approach to how we use our bodies on the instrument. Topics included here include embouchure, posture, flute position, and breathing. Technique is developing our skill in playing the flute, including our ability to play at a variety of tempos, dynamics, articulations, and to create beautiful and melodious phrasing. Finally, each student is studying a variety of repertoire carefully chosen for them from throughout the standard repertoire to apply their skills in musical compositions.

Dr. Blagoeva always devoted full attention to my lessons, working meticulously to find the perfect air stream angle or hand position. Every person’s mouth and arms and back are unique, so there is no single textbook method for many things in flute. Dr. B never gave up trying to land on the magic sweet spots that would open up flute for me.
